I guess it happens to everyone! I have had a lapse, perhaps a relapse to tell the truth. I was moving along just fine when all of a sudden I caved as I beat eggs, sugar, pumpkin and evaporated milk together for pumpkin pie and some of it went splat on my finger. Instead of rinsing it off, I put my finger in my mouth to taste it, as I have done so many times before. Next I was eating several teaspoons of the concoction, followed by a Dove Bar, and then later two Chips Ahoy brownie cookies. I was clearly off my diet, just in time for Thanksgiving with my family. Oh boy! The feast was fantastic and the company couldn’t be better. My boys had a ball!
What was intended to be a day off was extended a few days. What I hadn’t anticipated was how difficult getting back on my regimen would be. This is the moment where I say, “Enough is enough!”
I am clear about what I want. What I want is to lose the next 30 pounds. I want to enjoy wonderful health! I want to move more freely. I want to erase that constant fear of developing diabetes, owing to obesity. I want to break the chains of the media telling me to super size everything and consume, consume, consume. I want to travel and camp and hike with my boys! I want to live a long and vibrant life! So I need to do the hard work of leaving all those empty calories behind and consume enough food, but not too much, to nourish my body and help it run well. I want to continue to move daily so I am not too sedentary. I want to get back on track! I want to follow Mark Hyman’s Detox Diet to the t!
Did you fall off the wagon too this holiday season? Although it may have felt good for the moment, is that the pattern you really want to allow to take over your life? Is that what you really want? What type of body do you want to build for your future? What diseases are you willing to live with for the rest of your life as a consequence of continue to languish in the Standard American Diet (SAD)? Are you willing to make changes in order to live a healthier life, a life with little or at least less disease?
What would a healthier life style look like for you? What are three things you could begin doing today to promote health? Can you commit to making those changes and moving toward a more productive future?
Take a moment right now to write down what that healthier life style would look like and when you can commit to beginning your new life! Go ahead! Get it out there where you can see it. Don’t forget to date it for future reference. If you typed it out electronically, print it out and fold it up and put it in your wallet, where you will see it again! Consider hiring a health coach to hold you accountable to your commitments.
Enjoy the rest of the holiday season! Focus on the relationships you have out there and nourish your body with wonderful whole foods! Leave the processed, junk food behind!
