I have been on Mark Hyman’s Detox Diet since August 20th, 2015 or for roughly 2 weeks and I have lost 10 pounds already! Pretty spectacular I’d say. It’s really nice being on a diet plan that is so rewarding and really shows ongoing changes on the scale in the morning! In fact, it’s very reinforcing. It shows your efforts are not in vain.
The diet, which is fairly Paleo in nature, is rather restrictive, but it can be done and you needn’t fear being hungry. You have to watch your fruit, meat, nut and seed portions, but you can eat as much as you want when it comes to non-starchy vegetables. So you can really have your fill and needn’t feel deprived.
It hasn’t been without incident! The first week, I experienced crushing exhaustion. After getting up from bed and running through my early morning routine, I’d be crawling back to bed completely pooped, all before NOON! Apparently, this is a common symptom of detox. It lasts for 3-4 days, if not 3 weeks.
As a remedy to sooth you along the way, a detox soak is recommended. Ann Cortes, my wellness coach, from the Center for Fuctional Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic turned me on to the ultra bath. You can benefit from it too.
In this bath, you mix 2 cups epsom salts with 1/2 cup of baking soda and a 10 drops of your favorite essential oil. If you put the essential oil on the epsom salts before mixing it in the bath, the essential oil will really mix in and not simply float on the top of the water! Soak and enjoy for at least 10 minutes, 20 if you really want to pamper yourself. While in the bath, massage your skin with a massage mitt to really release the toxins. This ultra bath is supposed to be very soothing. I think I will try it tonight.
How about you? Are you ready for a little soak? Come on, what do you have to lose? Don’t have the right stuff in your medicine cabinet? Go get it and plan it for tomorrow night! Just do it!
