I have a very big decision to make. I have a total knee replacement surgery set for January 27, 2016, just six weeks away. After scheduling the surgery, I was given an online tutorial about the surgery. Quite frankly, it frightened me. The new knee is always subject to infection. At anytime it could require replacement or worse, it could be so bad that it has to be removed and never replaced again. The unit also wears out in roughly 15 years. So I need to decide if I am going to do this and if this is the right time.
While I was walking around the block with the dogs, I broached my dilemma with my young son Jarvie. I told him I have a big decision to make about whether or not to have my knee surgery now.
Jarvie’s reply, “Mommy you do it, if you want to and don’t do it if you don’t want to. It’s your decision, so you do what YOU want to do.”
It is such a joy to go through life with such a wise soul at my side. Sounds simple enough, but it was great advice. Notice he supported me entirely, without telling me what to do. In just a couple of sentences Jarvie made what I need to do entirely obvious. Perhaps, I should back off the surgery and give it some time. Let some of the other parts of my journey unfold. Maybe I should see what comes of the weight loss and the anti-inflammatory diet. Perhaps I will try more chiropractic therapy with manipulation.
